the wonder

“One’s delight is incomplete until it is expressed.”

JOHN PIPER

The wonder and surprise of God… It was Friday morning, December 30th. I was to drive to Newport Beach, California, but the weather wouldn’t cooperate. So I flew and rented a car. BUT as a result, that morning I walked into the Alaska Airline Lounge and the lady at the counter, after seeing my name, asked if I had spoken 35 years ago at Black Lake Bible Camp in Olympia, Washington? I said, “Yes.” Her eyes welled up with tears.

She said that she had asked God many times over those 35 years for an opportunity to thank me for my time there, what I said there, and what I did there. She said her life choices were very destructive. She said that she listened to every word I spoke and when she left that weekend she was determined to walk with Jesus. She made some very difficult decisions and resolved to live a life of obedience to God and His Word. She said, “You saved my life.”

Today she works for Alaska Airlines, lives in Seattle, has been happily married for 31 years and has 4 children and loves Jesus. I was completely blindsided, in a wonderful way. What a great start to a new day. To be reminded that God is mysteriously working even when we are not aware, even when it may be 35 years until we see the fruit of our time, our efforts, our life. BUT even more, how wonderful for her that our great God would answer her simple prayer
and complete her delight. God is good and Jesus does indeed save…
