chances

“Chances” and “luck” are seldom a part of my vocabulary.

Words like “coincidence” are used in jest. My world view aligns with the idea that our Sovereign God guides and directs us Providentially. He is not about chance, luck, or coincidence. He is purposeful and He is mystical.

Illness and good health, financial success or failure, broken or solid relationships are not the results of coincidences, luck or chance. Each of these play into God’s overarching plan to reveal His purposes and to direct people to His love and His forgiveness. We, too often, think that His story is ALL about me/us and that is when we use words like chance and luck and coincidence.

The next time you are in a hurry, slow down and notice the people who are around you. Say, “Hello” and just maybe in that simple gesture, God is inviting you into His amazing, mysterious, and beautiful plan. And just “maybe” it will alter that person’s life in a way that they never dreamed was possible. God does not operate in a world of coincidences which tells me that I should not.

Martin Luther King Jr. prayed,

“Use me, God. Show me how to take who I am,
who I want to be, and what I can do, and use it
for a purpose greater than myself.”

What purpose will your life serve today?
